What's the difference between a suit coat and tuxedo coat?

I'm going to a black tie event- involving james bond bowties, but I want to just use the black suit I have instead of renting a tux. Is it unlikely anyone can tell the difference, or is that a major social faux pas people will notice?
I meant... using a black bowtie with a regular suit instead of a tux.

YES - people would notice the difference. Tuxedos have satin or silk lapels, as well as stripe on the side of the pants. The buttons are also different. If you're going to wear a black suit, do not wear a black bow tie as it would look like YOU don't know the difference between a tuxedo and a black suit. If you're going to just wear a plain black suit, go with a plain white shirt and a plain black or slim(mer) plain black tie.

A Brief History of the Suit

The suit is the traditional form of male formal clothing in the modern world, and it has been that way for almost 200 years. Although the modern suit did not appear until the nineteenth century, the origins of the suit coat can be traced back to the revolution in men's clothing set by British royalty as early as 1600.

In the 1660s, King Charles II decreed that at court, men were to wear a long coat or a jacket, a waistcoat, a cravat – which later mutated into the modern necktie – a wig, and trousers. The entire ensemble would eventually become the standard business suit that millions of men wear everyday working day of their life.

By the early 1800s, styles had changed enough that the trend led men to wear understated, beautifully cut, perfectly tailored coats, along with elaborately knotted neckwear. What we call the modern suit was originally a nineteenth-century English innovation. The tailored man's suit became the great social leveler of the 19th century. With the breakdown of the aristocratic leadership that had dominated society since time immemorial, it became less necessary for men to emphasize distinctions of social rank. As the suit became increasingly popular, even the humblest men would have at least one suit to wear - their "Sunday best."

America took the lead in the 20th century with the ready-to-wear industry, devising technological advances that created a reliable source of clothing for all men. Tailors worked on standardized master patterns, a technique borrowed from the United States Army, and the proliferating department stores disseminated suits of a fairly uniform nature.

The Zoot Suit first gained popularity in the late 1930s in Harlem among the jazz community The word "zoot", according to the Oxford English Dictionary, probably comes from the word 'suit'. Anti-Latino race riots in Los Angeles during World War II are known as the Zoot Suit Riots. Despite restrictions and discrimination, Zoot Suit culture prevailed.

Over the past half-century, the wearing of suits has become far less common than it once was and is now restricted almost entirely to formal and business activities. During the 1990s, many businesses in North America adopted casual Fridays. The abandonment of a uniform dress code has led to considerable confusion over what is considered appropriate business wear. More recently, some businesses have reinforced the wearing of suits, although they may never again be as common as they once were.

So, if you’re one of those guys who bucks the trend and continues to wear a suit everyday of your life – take a bow. You are keeping history alive.

Wedding gift ideas for someone who can buy anything they want?

We've got 2 weeks to come up with an idea for a gift. They've been on vacation for the past month, so a trip is out of the question. I'm thinking some monogram stuff such as towels, making a HUGE gift basket of candles and sensual stuff for them to relax with, but I just want to get an idea. One owns all the storage buildings in town and the other is a freakin model, they have a huge house, everything they need.....what do ya'll suggest?

I like the idea of a wine, cheese and body massage oil basket. They could take it with them on their honeymoon or just enjoy it anytime. What I like is that it's something they can enjoy together.

British Artist: Painting Sensual Skin and Beauty of Women and Men Without Clothes

Frederick Leighton born in 1830 was a British painter. His paintings covered variety of subject ranging from depiction of historical events to biblical mythology. He painted many frames that could be stamped as classical paintings, too. Leighton had a big group of followers. Queen Victoria was among those who praised and purchased his paintings. The painting titled as Icarus and Daedalus had been one of the most famous artworks done by him. It is based on the mythological story of Daedalus.

Frederick had master the art of figurative painting. The figurative painting as a genre and the figurative painters as a class of artists have never been sailing easily. They faced a lot at the hands of religious heads, the rulers, general public, and some sections of art-lovers, too. But the genre has not only survived; it has flourished. And the artist like Frederick Leighton had made it so thriving along with others; as his paintings revealed the true spirit of Victorian period. He took pride in painting the events of ancient Greece and Rome.

Frederick would also choose subject that could bear the sensual appeal to the eyes of viewers. Such variety of subject has mad his style of painting so simple. One of his paintings titled as Actaea depicted the cloth-less woman, a nymph. In this painting the woman is reclining on seashore. In Greek mythology, the nymphs are the female spirits. These nymphs have remained subject of many painters who desired to paint sensual skin. In such paintings the artists also want showing the power of female figure putting it before the eyes of viewer.

Figurative painting reflects deep understanding of the artist doing it, as it is depiction of the anatomy of human body. In addition to that an artist tries to show the emotions through such paintings, as it could reveal the psyche of the person painted or portrayed, too. The master artists do so in the gentlest manner possible, as figurative painting would also require recreations of the gestures of the model. By doing so, a painter like Frederick Leighton would forge his reputation as an artist.

Frederick was master in depiction such sensual gestures of women without clothes in his paintings. The painting of a female without clothes is always subjected to personal interpretation of a painter, so far as her depicted form is concerned. Even the postures of female models tell inherent tales. Even the moods revealed by the postures and gestures of bare-body female models depicted in a painting tend to be an exclusive interpretation of an artist.
